My father, the Rev. Dr. David Georg Gelzer, Ph.D., career missionary with the Presbyterian Church USA, professor of Church History, Missiology and Ecumenics, died in the evening of January 23, 2016. His confirmation verse, given him on Palm Sunday 1935 as his own verse for lifetime discernment: 1 Cor. 1:9, “It is God Himself who calls you to share in the life of his Son, Jesus Christ, and God keeps faith.” The photographs are of my father on the day of his ordination to the ministry in 1943, at the Chicago Zoo on a family outing during our furlough in 1965, in New Haven during his year as Resident Scholar at Yale Divinity School in 1983, and in retirement at Rydal Park, PA, in 2013.
