(Jean met her husband Albert in 1960 at Hartford Seminary. Albert returned to Egypt and wrote to Jean and suggested she go to Egypt to teach. She went to Egypt in 1963 & taught at American School for Girls and married Albert in 1964. Albert died Feb. 22, 2017)

I am now in Baltimore until Feb. 27th. I was in Cairo working to finish a couple of Albert’s projects from Oct. 13th to just last Tuesday. I have now finished 3/4 of the projects and will go back to finish – both were outside of our apartment. After that, I will have to go back quite regularly to clean out our own apartment, which we had since 1964!! I can keep it, but don’t want to go on in life having to repair pipes, pay rent and utilities in too many places. Little by little.

I continue to try to get money for the repair and beautification of the American Cemetery in Old Cairo. Relatives of those buried in the cemetery are getting fewer and fewer as time goes on. Some grave stones are in horrible condition and the names cannot be seen. Unfortunately, when the American Mission pulled out in the late ’60’s, no records were kept. Not even Martha Roy’s name is listed in the list of burials! One needs to spend more time at the Synod going over records and updating.
