April 28, 2017 the big announcement was made for the change of the name “New Tribes Mission”, in use for about 75 years, to the name “Ethnos360”. So we are now members of Ethnos360, although with the same mission to see mature churches in every people group. The name change is a response to increasing resistance sparked by the name, before any real communication could begin. The mission magazine gets the corresponding name too.
Allison Lucht, one of our fellow missionaries, explains it this way in her letter:
“Ethnos” comes from the Greek, meaning nations or ethnic groups. Jesus commanded His followers to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
360 represents the entirety of the globe, all 360 degrees! The mission’s goal is to go wherever necessary in the whole world to see a thriving church for every people group.
