From the New York Times –

Age 67, born August 6, 1949. With great sadness, the Salama family announces the passing of Yves Salama, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Yves died suddenly at his Manhattan apartment on December 3, 2016. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Augusta Sterne; his two sons, Paul (wife Sarah Friedman) and Mark; his sister Sylvie Salama; his brother Albert (wife Anya); his granddaughter Ora Sage Friedman Salama; his niece Olivia Salama; his cousin Sasha Salama (husband Craig Weingard and children Gabrielle and Samuel). Yves was born in 1949 in Alexandria, Egypt to Lucie Zaccai and Marc Salama. The family, part of the Sephardic community, went back multiple generations in Alexandria, a city they loved. Yves was bar mitzvahed there, at the historic Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue, built in 1354. The family left Egypt in 1967 during the Six Day War, settling in Brussels, Belgium. Yves attended the American College in Paris and subsequently graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Rochester in 1972 and an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business two years later. Yves was a senior management executive with numerous global financial institutions in New York City, including Merrill Lynch, Alliance Bernstein and UBS. He focused on financial, operational, and strategic analysis, both inside corporations and as an external consultant. He was also an advisor to the Financial Clinic, an organization that helps low-income people manage their finances. From 1984 to 2000, Yves resided with his family in Larchmont, NY and was an active member of the village board and the Westchester Jewish Center. Yves was the embodiment of a global citizen, a world traveler, fluent in French, and a true gentleman, noted for his kindness, generosity, sophistication, subtle wit, and intellectual curiosity. His interests spanned the arts, history, theater, film, classical music, literature, and most recently, digital and social media. Above all else, he loved his wife Augusta and sons Paul and Mark. In November 2016, he was blessed with a granddaughter when Paul and his wife Sarah brought their daughter Ora into the world. The look on his face when he held Ora for the first time was indescribable, a combination of sheer joy and intense pride, and this is the way his family and friends will remember their beloved Yves. Funeral services will be held at 4pm on Thursday, December 8 at Plaza Community Jewish Chapel, New York City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) or the International Rescue Committee.
